During my placement at Solent’s marketing department I produced a campaign advertising the 2 year accelerated degree. The campaign was based on raising awareness for this exciting new degree course and promoting to prospective students to choose it as an alternative to a regular degree or apprenticeship.
My first task was to create a t-shirt for the campaign that could be worn at promotional events such as open days and career fayres. I chose a simple design that was clear, university appropriate, and had the Solent colours.The tagline was ‘a new gear to start your career’ and I used this throughout the campaign.
The second piece was an online advert. Using the acceleration theme I wanted to create a banner that showed an acceleration pedal. I wanted the shoe to be a formal one that looked like ‘work footwear’ to represent the experience side of the course. I used a black and white photo because it is aimed at a sophisticated audience of students with a mature outlook.
These banners would be for sites such as UCAS and the student room where those interested in university will come across this new type of degree. Using the Solent logo will help prospective students identify with the University.
My next part of the campaign was an email sent to students who have shown an interest in Solent and advertising specifically. I created a selection of Polaroid pictures to represent the course. I also used a footer that had links to contact details and social media accounts.
I transformed the webpage on the Solent University webpage to the new campaign.
I changed the original image to a billboard that displays an advertisement for the course and an image of cars to accentuate the ‘acceleration’ theme. I changed the headline from ‘Earn while you learn on the fast-tract to a career in advertising’ to ‘Degree + Work Experience in only 2 years’ because that was the most important USP.
